Back-to-School Support Program
Education: The Foundation of a Better Future
The L.U. Mbah Foundation has always recognised education as the single most powerful engine of social and economic transformation. A quality education opens doors that would otherwise remain firmly shut, providing young people with the knowledge, skills, and confidence they need to build fulfilling lives and contribute meaningfully to their communities. Yet for many children in Ezimo and the surrounding villages, access to education remains a daily struggle — not because of a lack of desire or ability, but because of the crushing weight of poverty.
The cost of education in Nigeria extends far beyond tuition fees. Families must also provide school uniforms, textbooks, exercise books, writing materials, school bags, and often contributions to school maintenance and development funds. For families already struggling to put food on the table, these costs can be insurmountable, forcing parents to make the agonising choice between sending their children to school and meeting other basic needs. The result is that thousands of bright, capable children are denied the education they deserve, perpetuating the cycle of poverty that has gripped their communities for generations.
The Back-to-School Support Program was established to ensure that no child in Ezimo is denied an education because of poverty. The programme provides comprehensive support to children from the most vulnerable families, covering the full range of educational expenses and removing the financial barriers that stand between them and the classroom.
What the Programme Provides
We provide school supplies, uniforms, and financial assistance to children in rural areas. Each child enrolled in the Back-to-School Support Program receives a complete package of educational materials tailored to their grade level and curriculum requirements. This package includes brand-new school uniforms, ensuring that every child can attend school dressed appropriately and with pride. It includes textbooks, exercise books, pens, pencils, erasers, rulers, and other essential stationery. It includes a sturdy school bag to carry their materials, and, where needed, school shoes that will last the entire academic year.
Financial assistance is provided to cover tuition fees, examination fees, and other school-related charges that families are unable to meet on their own. The Foundation works directly with schools to ensure that these payments are made on time and in full, relieving families of the stress and stigma that can accompany late or missed payments. In some cases, the Foundation also provides supplementary support for transportation, particularly for children who live in remote areas far from the nearest school.
The programme is not limited to the beginning of the school year. The Foundation monitors the progress of supported children throughout the academic year, providing additional supplies and support as needed. When children outgrow their uniforms or when supplies run low, the Foundation steps in to ensure that there are no gaps in their educational experience. This ongoing commitment sets the programme apart from many other back-to-school initiatives, which often provide a one-time donation and then move on.
Nurturing Tomorrow’s Leaders
The L.U. Mbah Foundation sees every child it supports as a potential leader, innovator, and change-maker. The Back-to-School Support Program is not just about getting children into classrooms; it is about nurturing their potential and helping them develop into the confident, capable adults that their communities need. To this end, the programme includes components focused on mentorship, personal development, and extracurricular enrichment.
Supported children are encouraged to participate in reading clubs, science fairs, debate competitions, and other activities that develop their critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills. The Foundation also organises holiday workshops and summer programmes that expose children to new ideas, technologies, and career possibilities, broadening their horizons and inspiring them to dream big.
The Foundation is committed to expanding the Back-to-School Support Program to reach even more children in the coming years. With each new academic year, the programme grows, welcoming more children into its fold and investing in the future of a community that has so much potential waiting to be unleashed. The vision is simple but powerful: a community where every child goes to school, every child completes their education, and every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Louis Uchenna Mbah was born on September 15th, 1945. He was more than a parent — he was a teacher, a protector, and a friend to his kids. He taught them that strength is not about how loud you speak, but how deeply you care. He showed them that love is not just in the words you say, but in the quiet sacrifices you make every single day.
Dad lived by a set of values that shaped everyone around him — honesty, kindness, humility and service to community. He believed in doing the right thing, even when no one was watching. He believed in giving more than you receive.
